These marks were used by the Steelcase’s Grand Rapids, Michigan furniture division. Each design was meant to convey one facet of their furniture design process. As a leader in module office design, these marks show the design process to problem-solving the right installation for a customer.

The first mark in gold and green is the communication process between the customer’s needs and Steelcase solutions.

The second mark represents the unique vision that Steelcase brings to solving the customer’s needs, and how that vision might look.

The third concept involves executing and creating the new customer space, continually working together with the customer.

The fourth mark is the continued dialogue that Steelcase has with all of their customers at installation and into the future.

The fifth mark represents the final documentation and warranty of a Steelcase solution.

All of the designs were sketched out and later created using Painter software. Painter gives each mark a hand-painted look and texture so that Steelcase could use it in additional marketing materials.

The concept behind the Pontiac E-Movement logo was to convey the energy and excitement behind GM’s sporty brand. The logos dimensional and gritty quality spoke to those who gravitated to the brand’s vehicle offering.

Buick March Madness event logo proposals to be used during the NCAA basketball tournament. These playful examples show possible executions for the event to be used as television end frames and for dealer marketing materials.

This mark was developed for Great Lakes Four Wheel Drive Association for a Canadian Jeep trail ride. The logo was used for marketing materials for the event and also embroidered on custom red jackets.

While working on concepts for a Black Friday direct mailing piece. I shared with the agencies Buick Creative director an idea of using a clever fold that transitioned between Black Friday and Buick Friday. The idea wasn’t used for the direct mail piece but found its way to become a Buick TV end-tag. The idea allows Buick to break through the Black Friday clutter and own the day through a simple typographic solution.

Inner office logo and shirt design for the American Heart walk. The front of the shirt identify Leo Burnett as the corporation or group walking. While the design on the back celebrates the event.

These Pulte Homes logos were created for a Detroit-based builder of high-quality residential homes. The first logo was developed as the brand’s main consumer facing mark.

Additional Pulte Homes logos for Mortgage and Home Science divisions expanded on the original mark to maintain a consistent look for the brand.

Prime Time Express was created for Kroger a local Detroit area grocer. Kroger implemented a plan to have additional check-out personnel during peak shopping hours and used this logo in promotional materials to illustrate this new feature at all their stores.

The icons presented here are part of the Buick brand iconology used on brand communications to illustrate key features and concepts. These Swiss inspired designs demonstrate the beauty and simplicity of minimalist design.

Graphic and contemporary logo for Brose Electric Shop. This family-owned business requested a design that was fun and out of the ordinary from other electric stores in the area.

Whirlpool Certified Care is the repair specialists that repair and service Whirlpool, Jenn-Air, Kitchen Aid and Maytag. Whirlpool wanted customers of these prestigious brands to recognize and acknowledge the training and expertise of their technicians.

This assignment involved designing a logo or mark that could serve several duties. The first was a Certified Care mark to identify these repair specialists over other standard repairman.

The second part of the Certified Care mark was to create a level of expertise or rank, much like the military does. So, a master logo was created that could be added to, showing the levels of training a technician had accomplished.

The final adaptation of the logo was designed to show Certified Care Years of Service which could also be a patch on the techs uniform or could be made into an employee medal.

This Michigan Lottery logo is a straight forward and clean logo designed for lottery tickets, point of sale and promotions.

This logo design for GM Performance Parts launched the return of GM’s legendary 427 aluminum engine. I created this metal design logo to commemorate the return of this engine legend. The logo was used in ads and was later created in metal for an owner’s box which was given to each person who bought one of 427 engines.

This hand drawn design is another inner office logo for the American Heart walk at Ford Field for Leo Burnett.

As a “car guy,” it has been a pleasure to work on GM Performance Parts business. I have to say it has given me some of my favorite assignments as a designer.

These GMPP Supermatic Transmission logos were developed for the brand’s new transmission parts offerings. A leader in the performance parts industry the client wanted something simple graphic that could later be used as a symbol.

I designed the stacked and horizontal version for print, web, and packaging applications. The idea for the future of the product would be to use the round, alternating circles to identify the product. The circles were designed as part of the logo to evoke how the plates in the transmission move.

I created this logo for GM Performance Parts Fuel. GMPP’s first on line newsletter. Two versions were developed, one for the on-line masthead and later a tagline version.

Clarkston Autobody and Radiator came to me to redesign their company logo, stationery and business materials. The retail shop had a beautiful radiator sculpture outside their business, and I convinced the owner to brand his business with this Swiss graphic approach to the logo.

I designed this logo for Mascotech Corporation, an automotive engineering corporation which sources automotive parts for GM. The mark conveys a simple, approachable and technical design.

Final logo for the Matrix Group which designs, creates and assembles office workstation solutions for large corporations. The logo design pays homage to Matrix Group’s engineering and technical solutions to creating complex office space solutions based on customer needs.

This design is the final logo for Little Caesars Pasta Pasta, a new product line from the pizza king here in Detroit.

GM Goodwrench Pit Pass Promotion logo encompasses a race motif design to be used by Goodwrench in conjunction with race car driver Kevin Harvick. This logo was used in a promotion for GM Goodwrench to entice consumers to bring their GM cars back to a GM dealership for service.

Great Lakes Four Wheel Drive Association asked me to create an event logo that could be used for their annual winter event. The organization is a non-profit which promotes keeping Michigan trails open for 4x4 recreation.

“Part of Something Bigger” was created to be more than merely an ad slogan. It’s the human expression of what it means to share a common approach to living and working. The logo was designed to create an awareness of the ACDelco brand. See Projects for the full story behind this idea.
